A robot vacuum is one of the products that most clearly saves time in daily life. The right model runs by itself while you are at work, and you come home to clean floors. The wrong one gets stuck under the sofa, drives over socks and needs more supervision than it saves.

The market is also confusing: manufacturers change model names often, and feature lists are long. We have therefore chosen to present popular product lines rather than a list of exact model numbers – always check which variant is on sale right now. Prices vary widely, so use check current price at the retailers.

Who is this guide for?

  • Anyone who vacuums the floors weekly and wants to stop
  • Families and pet owners with lots of hair and dirt
  • People in flats or houses with hard floors and low rugs
  • Anyone curious about mops and automatic docks but unsure of the benefit

How we evaluate

We do not claim to have lab-tested robot vacuums. Our recommendations are based on:

  • Specifications: suction, navigation (lidar or camera), obstacle avoidance, battery life, threshold height.
  • Owner reports: we read many reviews from owners, forums and independent test sites, and look for patterns that repeat.
  • Running costs: how often do brushes, filters and mop pads need replacing, and what do they cost?
  • App support and updates: how long does the manufacturer typically supply updates?
  • Terms: warranty, return rights and availability of spare parts.

Scores are editorial judgements.

Our picks

Roborock Qrevo series – best balance for most people

Roborock’s Qrevo models are a popular choice in the mid to upper-mid range. The dock empties the dustbin and washes the mop automatically, and the app is known for being well made. Owner reviews are generally positive for everyday cleaning.

Keep in mind that the dock takes up space and the mopping function is mainly intended for hard floors.

Dreame L series (Ultra) – lots for the money

Dreame has become one of the major players in a short time. Its top models have powerful docks and impressive specifications, often at a lower price than rivals. The downside is that the line-up changes quickly and the service network varies by country.

iRobot Roomba Combo j series – simple and established

Roomba has long been synonymous with robot vacuums. The Combo j series combines vacuuming and mopping and has good obstacle avoidance in many reviews. It is easy to use but often pricier than rivals with similar specifications. Always check the current status of app support and spare parts with the manufacturer before buying.

Ecovacs Deebot T series – good-value mid-range

The Deebot T series is interesting if you want a mop and dock without paying for the flagship. Reviews vary more between models, so read reviews for the specific variant you are considering.

Comparison criteria

  • Lidar: fast and accurate mapping, works in the dark.
  • Camera: can be good at object recognition but raises privacy questions.

The best models combine both.

Suction and brush

High suction (measured in Pa) does not tell the whole story. Brush design is crucial for hair – a rubber brush tangles less than a bristle one.

Mop

Simple mops that merely drag a damp cloth have limited effect. Rotating or vibrating mops work better but need more maintenance.

Dock

Automatic emptying cuts maintenance considerably but takes up space and uses dust bags or a container that must be emptied.

Maintenance and consumables

Expect to replace filters, side brushes, main brush and mop pads several times a year. Check that spare parts are available on the Swedish market.

Common mistakes

  • Buying too much: with a small floor area, a simpler model without a dock is enough.
  • Skipping preparation: cables, tassels and socks must go, otherwise expensive technology does not help.
  • Buying a mop for rugs: most mop systems should not be used on rugs.
  • Ignoring the app’s privacy settings.
  • Expecting it to replace a regular vacuum.

Verdict

  • Best all-rounder: Roborock Qrevo series.
  • Most for the money: Dreame L series (Ultra).
  • Easiest to use: iRobot Roomba Combo j series.
  • Good-value mid-range: Ecovacs Deebot T series.

FAQ

Are robot vacuums as good as a regular vacuum?

Not entirely. They are excellent for daily maintenance cleaning but do not replace a regular vacuum for deep cleaning, stairs and corners. Most users keep a traditional vacuum as well.

How often does a robot vacuum need maintenance?

Empty the dustbin regularly (or let the dock do it), clean the brushes of hair and threads weekly, and replace filters, side brushes and mop pads as the manufacturer recommends. Consumables should be part of your total cost.

Can robot vacuums handle rugs and thresholds?

Most handle low rugs and thresholds up to roughly 2 cm, but long fringes or thick rugs can get caught. Check the maximum threshold height in the specifications and that the model has carpet detection if you have rugs.

Are cameras in robot vacuums a privacy issue?

Models with cameras may send images to the cloud or app. Read the manufacturer’s privacy policy, switch off features you do not need, and use strong passwords. If this worries you, there are models with lidar and no camera.

Do robot vacuums work well with pets?

Yes, but choose a model with good obstacle avoidance if your dog or cat may leave ‘surprises’ on the floor, and expect more brush maintenance. Make sure the brush does not tangle with long hair.
