The air fryer has become a standard appliance in many Swedish kitchens. It heats quickly, gives crispy results with little oil and is often easier to clean than an oven. But it is not a miracle machine, and many end up in the cupboard after a couple of months.

This guide helps you choose one you will actually use. We do not quote prices; use check current price.

Who is this guide for?

  • Anyone cooking for 1–6 people who wants quick everyday meals
  • Anyone who wants to cut down on oil and deep-frying
  • Anyone wondering whether an air fryer is worth the money

How we evaluate

We have no test kitchen or lab and do not measure temperature or power use ourselves. We rely on:

  • Specifications: size, power, features, dual drawers.
  • Owner reports: especially on cleaning, coating durability and noise.
  • Practical aspects: counter footprint, storage.
  • Service and warranty.

Scores are editorial judgements.

Our picks

Ninja Foodi Dual Zone – best for the family

Two separate drawers and the ability to synchronise finish times mean you can cook chicken and chips at once. Capacity is large, but it takes up a lot of counter space and has more parts to clean.

Philips Airfryer (3000/5000 series) – the simple classic

Philips has set the standard. Simple menus, good results and good service. Pricier than many rivals, but often a safe investment.

Cosori Pro / Premium – lots for the money

Cosori offers good features and digital menus at a lower price. The brand is less established in Sweden, so check warranty and service terms with the retailer.

Tefal Easy Fry & Grill – if you want a grill

The combination of air fryer and grill plate gives variety. It is a good-value mid-range model, but cleaning the grill plate can be more fiddly.

Comparison criteria

Size and shape

  • 3–4 litres: 1–2 people.
  • 5–7 litres: family.
  • Dual drawers: flexibility, but takes space.

Cleaning

Remove the drawer and basket and wash. Some have easier coatings and fewer nooks.

Noise

The fan can be loud. Read reviews.

Features

Preset programs, dehydrating, grill and keep-warm. More features do not necessarily mean better results.

Coating

Check whether the coating is PFAS-free if that matters to you.

Common mistakes

  • Buying too small: the drawer gets overfilled and food is not crisp.
  • Buying too large: takes space and goes unused.
  • Overfilling the drawer.
  • Using metal utensils.
  • Expecting it to replace the oven.

Verdict

  • Best for the family: Ninja Foodi Dual Zone.
  • Best simple classic: Philips Airfryer.
  • Most for the money: Cosori Pro / Premium.
  • Best with grill: Tefal Easy Fry & Grill.

FAQ

Is an air fryer healthier than deep-frying?

It needs far less oil and therefore fewer calories than deep-frying. The result resembles fried food but is not identical. It does not make food healthy in itself – that depends on what you cook.

How big should the air fryer be?

About 3–4 litres is enough for 1–2 people. For families we recommend 5–7 litres or a dual model. Also measure your counter space.

Is an air fryer cheaper than an oven?

For small portions an air fryer often uses less electricity because it heats up quicker and has a smaller volume. For large batches the oven is usually more efficient. Calculate with your own electricity price.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

Most drawers and baskets are dishwasher-safe according to the manufacturer, but hand washing often prolongs the life of the coating. Always check the manual.

Is non-stick coating a concern?

Modern coatings are generally safe under normal use, but scratches can impair them. Do not use metal utensils. Models with ceramic coatings exist.
